Windows 9x - NT/2000/XP

MIRC - Available in both 32 and 16 bit versions, mIRC is one of the most popular if not the best IRC softwares available. mIRC is easy to set up for both the newbie and experienced IRC user. The mIRC homepage has extensive help documentation. Be sure to check it out!

PIRCH 98 - Available for Windows 95/98 only, Pirch is one of the best IRC Cients on the market. Set up is quick and easy for both the newbie and experienced users. If you are looking for an IRC Client with multi-server capabilities, then stop by the Pirch Home page and download the software.

Macintosh - iMac

IRCLE - is the best IRC client available for Macintosh users. Check ircle homepage for downloads information. Ircle's WebSite

HOMER 0.94 - If Ircle won't work on your system you may want to try Homer. The link provided is to Blue Cow Software, the authors of Homer!


UNIX

EPIC - (Enhanced Programmable ircII Client) - Quoted as being the "Best" of the irc clients, EPIC allows you to do EVERYTHING that the irc protocol (RFC 1459) allows, and does not place any arbitrary restrictions upon you.

Setup

Mirc Setup for WebChat

  • Download and save software file into a temporary directory.
  • Double click the mIRC exe file that is best used with your operating system. If you are using a 32 bit operating system, such as Windows 95 or Windows NT, you should run mircXXt.exe. Otherwise use the 16 bit mircXXs.exe program to install mirc. XX refers to version number.
  • Start mirc from Start Menu or Program manager.
  • Click on the File menu and then click on Setup...
  • Click on the IRC Servers tab. Enter the following information in the corresponding fields:
    Real Name: our real name (ie, Joe Williams)
    E-Mail: your email address (ie, jwilliams@webchat.org)
    Nick Name: an alias to use on the chat system (ie, IluvLuCy)
    Alternate: if someone else is already using the NickName you've chosen,
    you will be known as this name instead (ie, IluvLuCy2)

  • Click on Add button and add this information into the corresponding fields:
    Description: WebChat IRC Network
    IRC Server: irc.webchat.org
    Port: 6667

  • The Password field should be left blank. Now, click on Add.
  • Click on OK.
  • Click on the Identd tab. Make sure that the Enable Idnent server box is ticked, and that your username is in the User ID field.
  • Your mIRC program is now set up. Click on the File menu and select Connect. After a short wait (up to 20 seconds) you will see the line saying something like End of MOTD command. Note: Motd is daily update of important message from server administator. To access such motd when connected already type /motd.
  • In the single row box at the bottom of the Status window, type the following commands to perform the listed functions.

Setup for other clients

  • Configure your IRC client to connect to server irc.webchat.org 6667
